Meeting Minutes October 2, 2004 Our Annual Picnic meeting was at the home of VP Jerry W3CDE and Annie Lofstead in Snellville. In attendance along with our hosts were Pres Mike K4HBI and Susan AF4FO, Bob K4SZ, Fred K4KAZ and Frankie W4BJT. You folks that don't make the picnics don't know what you are missing. A good time was had and plenty of food was available. Jerry cooked Hot dogs and Hamburgers on the grill to go with the Potato Salad, Cole Slaw and other delicacies including Key Lime Pie for dessert among the choices. The only business conducted was approval by the executive committee of a proposal to extend lifetime local membership to any member attaining the lofty position of 90 years of age or 70 years licensed. At the present time this will include our eminent members Bruce Montgomery W4BFR and Pete Sides W4AUP. Respectfully submitted, Bob Lear K4SZ, Sec/Treas Chapter 49 DUES: Well I warned you that I would eventually get around to it. After reconstructing the checking account records and finally finding the original database that I had made off a crashed computer, I have put the chapter records back together to the best of my ability. If anyone has information that is different, please contact me with it and all efforts will be made to make things right and bring the records up to date. I know that many of you have asked if they were up to date so here is the current accounting. Remember it is your own responsibility for keeping your national dues up to date and I remind you that national and chapter bylaws require that you do so to be a member in good standing of the chapter. By local dues expiration date of December 31, the following members need to catch up with their dues and then extend for whatever period desired. Regardless of these expiration dates, all listed have been carried as members in good standing and have been receiving all Chapter Newsletters and information available. We want to make clear that the overdue time WAS NOT the fault of the individuals. Please notice that even the officers and directors were not immune. We are not doing this to single anyone out, only to get you and the chapter up to date with dues. It was suggested by one of our members some time ago that putting the names and call signs in the newsletter makes the holder notice more than sending out due bills!! Expired 2001: W4TL Terry Jones, NV4U Ron Gill Expired 2002: AB4HR Charlie Akins, W4KXT Waymon Blackburn, W4RU Sandy Donahue, W4PBV William Duckwitz, KT4XF Doug Foos, KB7UV Andy Funk, K4HCA Harold Hairston, N9ENG John Kludt, W5SNX Dick Ray, W4GBU Guy Shields, K4HBI Mike Swiderski, WA0HQQ Al Tirevold. Notice that your dues expire 12/31/2004 to the following individuals: KG4CFP Lenny Batson, W4MMQ Ed Bigbie, W4OHA Bobby Canup, W4ZPG John Clowe, W9BKJ Wayne Flickinger, K4SZ Bob Lear, W3CDE Jerry Lofstead, K4GYH Jim Washburn, KE4AK George Clement, WA6NGC Mark Fehlig. All the past due amounts will be satisfied with $4 per year whether one, two or three years owed. The usual rates of $5 for one year, $8.50 for two years and $12 for three years for 2005 and up renewals. Please send your checks payable to "QCWA Chapter 49" to the usual address shown below or I will be collecting dues at the December meeting. Thank you all. Bob Lear, Sec/Treas Ch 49 PO Box 1269 Dahlonega, GA 30533 "Presidential Pontification" (or Da President Yaps!!!) Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas or whatever holidays you chose to celebrate! Hope you all are doing well. We, Susan and I have just returned from a whirlwind tour around and thru the southern portion of Georgia. After the QCWA net on Saturday we headed down to Thomasville and then to Pavo for a wonderful fish-fry at the Thomasville radio club meeting, great food and fellowship. On Sunday We headed across the state to Brunswick for a crab cake dinner with Captain Carrol WD4ECL and Clay WO4X and their lovely brides. On Monday we moved to St Simons into the Sea Palms resort for the EMAG (Emergency Management Association of Georgia) Conference where Susan spoke and I ate and danced. Tuesday had us heading to Jesup for a crab stew and sandwich lunch with a bunch of hams in that area including Jack KI4ATE, Jim N4PJR, Greig N4VAD, Chip K4WAR, and families among others. Then back to Norcross to the cat with an attitude. I think the ARRL travel is done for the year. Thanks to all the QCWA Chapter Forty-Niners for your support and smiling faces at all the local hamfests, they have turned into great face-to-face re-acquainting, meeting, and talking events. Lawrenceville was so well attended that I missed seeing a bunch of folks who came by and signed in at the QCWA table. Again at heary Thank You to the hamfest host, the Alford Memorial Radio Club for their generous donation of $100 to Chap 49 so that we could have a table and fatten the treasury a bit. Our October 2nd meeting was a blast, as it has in the past, the annual Picnic/Parts Swapping/Shack Clean Out get together. My sincere thanks to the hostess and host of this event Annie and Jerry Lofstead Ch. 49 VP, W3CDE. The chili, cooked to order burgers, and hotdogs were wonderful as well as all the side dishes and desserts. Thank you all for making this a wonderful event. A lot of swapping of one man's junque to another man's treasure was accomplished. Somehow this year - I think I carted home more than I brought, which was quite unusual as I try to come home with only half of what I brought. Great Fun, Fellowship, and lies - oops I mean stories were enjoyed by all. Thank You again Annie and Jerry for a wonderful afternoon. Please keep the members of the QCWA family in your thoughts and prayers. Hope all stay healthy and if not, wish you a speedy recovery. Please keep us informed about your health, so we can put you in our prayers and let your friends know of status. Please remember that our December 4 meeting is our annual Holiday Party at Fire Mountain. Please join us at this gathering. And a reminder that we do have our gift swapping session for both ham and non-ham at the party. For those that are looking for a special gift for the Chapter 49 President, it must have been hard to find an OMNI VI+, so to make it easier I will gladly settle for a Yaesu FT DX9000 MP. Please really consider the blessings you have been given, including the QCWA Chapter 49 Family. Again, Thanks Bob, K4SZ, for the great Chapter 49 Newsletter. See you all soon 73, Mike K4HBI Secretary Treasurer/Newsletter Editors Notes: The Chapter had a table at the Stone Mountain/Lawrenceville hamfest again this year. Thanks to the fine folks at the Alford Memorial Radio Club who put on the hamfest for their generous donation to the Chapter 49 treasury making if possible for us to have a table. A thank you letter has been sent to the Alford club president. Jerry W3CDE and Doug KT4XF were among our members who manned the table, greeting visitors, explaining what QCWA is and handing out both local and national membership forms. I was informed that we ran out of local forms at the hamfest, but we have contact info for those interested folks to get forms and information to. Apparently a good number of members signed in at the table. Thanks to Mike for bringing and hanging the banner (and taking it home too!). We hope we gain some more new members from this years hamfest effort. Thanks to all who manned the table. I was set up outside with a display for the FourLanders VHF Contest group and got to see a lot of our Chapter members stopping by. Welcome New Member Gary Greene WA4TOL of Loganville who joined at the Stone Mountain hamfest. Gary joined National earlier this year. He was first licensed in 1976 and lists AM and antique radios among his interests. Gary is retired and also a GARS member. We look forward to meeting Gary soon at one of our meetings or on the nets. Welcome to Chapter 49, Gary. One of our good Chapter 49 Friends is moving to Texas. Estelle Wyzga, widow of Mike Wyzga (K4OBD) is moving from Decatur to Dallas to be closer to her family. Good Luck to Estelle. Now that I have gotten the dues straightened out, I will next work on the member awards such as Century Club and 65 years e.g. that are also overdue. I will try get a new roster out soon too. I'm hoping that we'll have some more new members to add to it. Be sure to get me any changes in addresses or phone numbers so that I'll publish the right info on you. The Executive committee is working out the dates for next year's meetings and they will be published in the next newsletter, along with any information on programs that we have by then. As always, the newsletter is open to input from all members. Please send me something. 73 Bob K4SZ QCWA PEACH STATE CHAPTER 49 Web address: www.mindspring.com/~w4gbu/qcwa.htm 2004-2005 CHAPTER OFFICERS President Mike Swiderski K4HBI 770-449-0369 k4hbi@arrl.net VP/ Net Mgr Jerry Lofstead W3CDE 770-979-5500 w3cde@arrl.net Sec/Treas Bob Lear K4SZ 706-864-6229 k4sz@arrl.net Exec Comm Fred Runkle K4KAZ 770-945-6326 runkle@charter.net Frankie Womack W4BJT 404-767-5382 w4bjt@mindspring.com Sandy Donahue W4RU 404-315-1443 w4ru@arrl.org NetManager Jerry W3CDE using the K4VN Chapter 49 Club Call: Chapter 49 QCWA VHF Net Wednesday 2000 146.82- MHz Tone 146.2Hz Chapter 49 QCWA HF Net Saturday 0900 3.8575 Mhz.
