QCWA Peach State Chapter 49 October/November 2008 Newsletter Happy Holiday’s From All of Us At Quarter Century Wireless Association Chapter 49 MEETING NOTICE: SATURDAY December 6, 2008 High Noon, Ryan’s Family Steakhouse, Norcross, Georgia Good Day and BURRRRR COLD, Well as we get prepared for the last QCWA meeting of the year... Start digging around for a Swap Gift. Something about $10.00 in value and ham related. A new Flex 5000 would be OK too. 8-) Hopefully most of the folks have escaped some of the sickness going around. Up to yesterday, I was successful... Not today... Oh well "tis the Season" for all kinds of stuff. If you have not noticed, the bands have been from very BAD to fairly good. Sure wish the Sun Spots would make up their mind and stick around for a while. Maybe by summer time we may see some more of them. With the leaves off of most of the trees, it now makes "Antenna Time" a better time than in the Summer. You can now see the ideal spot in the tree to get the support wire. However, you may spend a week getting it there! At least if you have luck like me! With the price of copper now down 50%, we might be able to afford the wire for that new sky wire. The Stone Mountain Hamfest was a success. We met a bunch of new folks and renewed some old friendships. Things sure did close down early outside on Saturday. By early afternoon, most of the folks were gone and I did not get a chance to bring any new boat anchors home with me... At least I did not have to explain why I got this or that... Better luck next year. At the last meeting in October, we had a ball!!!!!!!! WOW did you see that and I can remember those or I had one of those... and the comments went on. AH, a breath of old air 8-)... A great meeting of the good o'le boat anchors and pictures to remember and bring back fond memories. Mr. Koch did a superb job!! What a presentation. Sorry for any one who missed a great time with old friends and old equipment that we had "way back when". You could not beat that kind of camaraderie with even an old banana split with an old girl friend... Em' were the days!!! OH YES! Also reviewed was the new book on old time radio equipment and stuff we can remember from our early days. Time travel at the QCWA meeting that can’t be beat. I will be looking forward to seeing any of you who can make it to the December 6, 2008 meeting. Again at the Ryans and in the little room at the front again. Do not forget to bring a gift swap! C U There Jerry Lofstead W3CDE October Meeting: Well, your secretary was out visiting with his 88 year old mother and missed the meeting so the minutes will be pretty short. Sounds like everyone had a great time. I did get my QCWA Chapter 49 renewal notice in the mail and decided to go for a Lifetime membership and not worry about the next dues due date. Remember to get to Lifetime status you must be Lifetime first with National and then your local chapter. Something to think about as your notice of dues comes in the mail. As you may recall we are working to get the Chapter 49 dues and the National dues in synch. It is a big job and Dave, W4DTR, is working through the process. Did not hear from Dave, but I am going to assume that absent a big blowout shopping spree for door prizes, the treasury is in good shape. With Fall and Winter here we have started the Wednesday Night Two Meter “Net” up again. Think of it as more of a Round Table where Chapter 49 members can get together in the middle of the week and chew the fat on subjects of interest. There is no net control: just feel free to join in at 2000 hrs local, Wednesday nights, on the MATPARC repeater 145.410(-) MHz for some good discussions with your fellow Old Timers. We do have a couple of open items with which to deal: 1) Your President and Board will be setting the calendar for next year here very shortly. We will probably stick to the third Saturday of the month on the even months. If you have any fortune telling skills or know of any conflicts with the 2009 Hamfest schedule, please let us know so we can attempt to accommodate them in our schedule. 2) We need to put together four programs for next year (February, April, June, and October). We have our picnic in August and December is the Christmas get together. If you know of a program or have a program you would like to give please contact me (k7sys@arrl.net) Upcoming programs: December 6, 2008 (Ryan’s) – QCWA Christmas Party February 21, 2009 (tentative date)(Ryan’s) - TBD 73’s and BCNU John Kludt K7SYS, Secretary QCWA PEACH STATE CHAPTER 49 Web address: www.qcwa49.org 2006-2007 CHAPTER OFFICERS President Jerry Lofstead W3CDE 770-979-5500 w3cde@arrl.net Vice President Doug Foos KT4XF bogeyman10@netzero.net Secretary John Kludt K7SYS 770.891.8091 k7sys@arrl.net Treasurer David Bruse W4DTR 770-623-0149 w4dtr@arrl.net Director Frankie Womack W4BJT 404-767-5382 w4bjt@mindspring.com Mike Swiderski K4HBI 770-449-0369 k4hbi@arrl.net Net Manager Jerry W3CDE using the K4VN Chapter 49 Club Call Chapter 49 QCWA HF Net Saturday 0900 3.8575 Mhz.
