QCWA Peach State Chapter 49 October 2007 Newsletter MEETING NOTICE: SATURDAY October 27 2007 High Noon Good day Ladies and Gents, AH FALL!! Finally! Well as we recover from 100 degree temperatures, we are now in to the season of great weather and brisk mornings. After having waited for this fine weather, antenna time has arrived. Soon the wasps and yellow jackets will "cool it" for the winter and lessen the possibility of an exciting antenna venture in the trees. The leaves will soon be off the trees and we will be able to see the tops of the trees. Sling shot time has arrived. Some may be adept enough to use a bow and arrow, I am not so lucky. As we try to get those wire antennas up in the trees, DO NOT forget about doing the job safely. We are not in any need of making hospital visits or worse to our members who did not plan on what they were doing. A thoughtful plan of what you need to do should be first on your list. What you want to accomplish and the safest way to do it. If you need to put a ladder up into a tree, remember to tie it at the top to the tree. If needed, tie off both sides to substantial anchor so the ladder does not take a vacation with you on it! 8-( I can remember as a kid when I climbed a wild cherry tree and when I cam down from the top, after installing an antenna anchor, the branches I climbed up on were not there. This caused a very RAPID decent! One of the neighbors was watching me and saw me airborne as I descended rapidly to the ground. I hugged the tree part of the way down. This worked till my arms and chest were torn up, then I let go... the ground came up rapidly.. and a sudden stop! Recovery time was about 3 weeks, and still vivid in my memory. Please do not let this happen to you. If you have some memorable experiences, let John know and we can all enjoy them. Just write it up and send it to John at johnnykludt@earthlink.net . If you would share some of your early hamming years, it would be appreciated by all of us. I do believe I will write up some of my "early years" for the next news letter. I have had a few wild rides during my early years. 8-) Participation on the 75 Meter net has been from good to GREAT! More folks are showing up as we get into the fall and vacation season is over. However, we are in need of a NCS for the Wednesday night net at 8 PM. Other activities have been keeping me from making that net. Would someone like to step up??? It is a very informal chat session and basically needs someone to do a call to see if anyone is around. Not very difficult. I hope to get another 2 Meter antenna up on the other end of the house so I can get a reasonable signal into the repeater. All the problems with the 145.410 MHz MARTPAC repeater have been cured and works great now. Thank you Frankie Womack / W4BJT for all you efforts. Also congratulations on finally retiring! Yeah Team. 8-) I am looking forward to seeing all those that can attend the October 27 meeting at RYANS ( I hate when they keep changing the names of places!!!). Jerry Lofstead W3CDE, President August Meeting: As you all know, this meeting was the picnic. In the spirit of fun and frivolity, no formal business was conducted. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new lifetime member Mary Whatley Ahls, W4NZJ. Dave W4DTR with help from many of you has completed the huge task of updating our membership roster and contact information and for that we all thank him, as it was not an easy task. 73’s and see you end of the month John Kludt K7SYS, Secretary QCWA PEACH STATE CHAPTER 49 Web address: www.qcwa49.org 2006-2007 CHAPTER OFFICERS President Jerry Lofstead W3CDE 770-979-5500 w3cde@arrl.net Vice President Mike Swiderski K4HBI 770-449-0369 k4hbi@arrl.net Secretary John Kludt K7SYS 770.891.8091 johnnykludt@earthlink.net Treasurer David Bruse W4DTR 770-623-0149 w4dtr@arrl.net Director Frankie Womack W4BJT 404-767-5382 w4bjt@mindspring.com Net Manager Jerry W3CDE using the K4VN Chapter 49 Club Call: Chapter 49 QCWA VHF Net Wednesday 2000 145.410-MHz ( MATPARC repeater) Chapter 49 QCWA HF Net Saturday 0900 3.8575 Mhz.
