Game 4 vs. WGSC Herricanes Red:

The Herricanes Red are the top U-14 team from the West Gwinnett Soccer Club. We've played them once before, losing 2-1 in game 3 of the 2000 Concorde Challenge Cup a month ago. The Herricanes won the Athena "B" division during last spring's U-13 season to earn promotion into Athena "A" during the fall. But they had a bottom 2 finish and were moved back into Athena "B" for the spring.

The Quest got off to a good start, with Rachael almost scoring in the opening minute. As the game unfolded, the Herricanes began to take control and show a speed of play advantage. They passed quickly, and when they lost the ball, they were quick to pressure the Quest and regain possession.

The Herricanes scored their first goal after a buildup from a throw-in. They sent a cross to the far post side. A Herricane player had broken away from her mark and had a wide open shot to score easily and give the Herricanes a 1-0 lead.

The Herricanes built the lead to 2-0 on a shot taken just outside a crowded Quest penalty area. The ball found its way through the crowd past the screened Quest keeper into the goal.

The Herricanes scored again to take a 3-0 lead by switching the ball from one side of the field to an open player on the other side.

The Quest didn't quit, though, and played some of their best soccer after this point. But it was a definite case of too little, too late. The final whistle came and the Herricanes celebrated a deserved 3-0 win. This is the Quest's first loss of the spring league season.

Goalies: Big J (full game). Jessica made some good saves, including a spectacular block on a breakaway. She didn't have much chance on any of the Herricanes goals.

With today's loss, the Quest's spring regular season record is now 2 wins, 1 tie and 1 loss. The Quest earns 0 points for the loss and now has 12 points after four games.
