Game 5 vs. DSA Red Hots Red:

The Red Hots Red are the top U-14 team from the Dekalb Soccer Association. We've played them once before, winning 1-0 in game 6 of the fall 1999 season.

This was the Quest's first game after a 2-week spring break recess.

The Quest got off to a good start and controlled the opening minutes. The game then settled into a back-and-forth affair, with neither team creating any clear-cut scoring chances. DSA looked for long shots and took a few, but none of them were really dangerous. DSA put quick pressure on the ball, and they stopped most Quest attacks outside of their own penalty area.

Halftime came with the score tied 0-0 with neither team looking too dangerous.

The second half was more of the same. DSA and Quest traded possession. The Quest had the better chances, but the team couldn't find an open player for a shot. DSA had a breakaway chance midway through the half, but Big J came out strong to cut off the angle, and she blocked the shot with her legs. Great play Big J!

With 7 minutes left, the Quest were on the attack. The outside defenders had pushed forward. DSA won the ball in their own half, and they hit a quick pass to their left forward, who was wide open in the space behind the right side of the Quest defense. The DSA center forward joined in, and this play quickly became a 2v1 in their favor.

Jillian made a hustling recovery run to get back goal-side of the play while Charlsey stepped up to challenge the ball. DSA played the situation perfectly, though, and the end result was an open shot from the top of the Quest penalty area. The DSA player shot high toward the right corner. Big J made a valiant effort and got her hand on the ball, but the shot was too strong, and it deflected into the top corner of the goal to give DSA a 1-0 lead.

The Quest just didn't have their normal hustle and desire, though, and never really threatened the rest of the game. The final score was 1-0 in favor of DSA.

Goalies: Big J (full game). Jessica made a few good saves, including another excellent block on a breakaway. She made a good effort on the DSA goal, but the shot was too strong for her.

With today's loss, the Quest's spring regular season record is now 2 wins, 1 tie and 2 losses. The Quest earns 0 points for the loss and now has 12 points after five games.
