Team
Background:
The United
Quest Blue '85 is a girls "select"
("Athena") soccer team that consists of girls ages 13 and 14 from Acworth,
Canton, Kennesaw, Marietta and Woodstock. Our team plays in the Georgia Youth Soccer Association
U-14 (under 14 in age as of July 31, 1999) Athena "B" division. The Athena
division consists of "select teams" (girls who were selected after tryout
sessions) from across Georgia.
Our team was born during the United Soccer Club girls "select team"
(Athena) tryouts following the 1996-1997 season. United had fielded two U-11 Athena teams
during the 1996-1997 season. The tryouts drew enough talented girls to form a third team
for the 1997-1998 U-12 season, which became the United Quest Blue '85 Athena.
As a brand new team, the U-12 United
Quest Blue started in the lowest Athena division, called the "D" division.
The Quest finished in 2nd place (spring 1998) to earn promotion to the tougher
"C" division for the U-13 year. The U-13
United Quest Blue did it again, finishing in 2nd place (spring 1999) to earn promotion
to the still tougher "B" division for the upcoming U-14 year.
Our "sister" teams are the United Quest Red '85 Athena, which
"plays up" a year in the U-15 Athena "A" division, and the United
Quest White '85 Athena, which plays in the U-14 Athena "B" division.

Team
Roster:
Here's the United Quest Blue spring 2000 roster:
- Lindsey Bergman
- Jessica Borocz
- Rachael Bridge
- Elisa Carluccio
- Jessica Dyke
- Amanda Harvey
- Meagan Krueger
- Jillian Lammers
- Christina Morello
- Kaelen Russell
- Alex Sklut
- Charlsey Thornton
- Lauren Womack
The team is coached by Ward Swain and Dawn Bristol. Team volunteers
include manager Lynn Lammers, treasurer Laurie Dyke, fund-raising chairwoman Carol Morello
and social directors Jo Bridge, Susan Thornton and Beverly Womack.
Roster changes: We've had a few changes since the team was
formed after the June tryouts:
- We added Jessica Borocz to
the team in late August. Jessica is a goalie who formerly played at Cobb Union with Alex
(Sparky) during the U-12 year. Welcome Jessica! Oops, that should be "Welcome Big
J" since we've renamed her "Big J" to tell her apart from our other
Jessica.
- Asha Natarajan played for the Quest
in the fall. She was our lone high school student (the other players are in 8th grade).
She made her high school (Campbell) tennis team for the spring. Due to time conflicts,
Asha is taking the spring 2000 soccer season off to devote her time to tennis. Good luck
Asha!
- Sally Regler played for the Quest
in the fall. She transferred to the Cobb YMCA Dracas (U-14 Athena "D") prior to
the spring 2000 season. Sally scored one of the team's biggest goals in the spring 1999
season when her goal from a corner kick play tied the Cherokee Lady Knights. If we had
lost that game, we wouldn't have moved up to Athena "B" this past fall. Good
luck Sally!
- The Quest welcome Dawn Bristol,
who will help coach the Quest during the spring. Dawn is part of "the coaching
Bristol family," which includes her dad Rob (coach of the U-15 Quest Blue) and her
sister Ann (coach of the U-11 Quest White). Dawn coached the U-16 Quest Red during the
fall. Dawn played college soccer and continues to play in the Atlanta women's league (on
the same team as Kerri Schmitt, coach of the U-11 Quest Red). We're delighted to have Dawn
helping the team!
Where are they now? Here's an update on six members of last year's U-13 team:
- Meghan Boulware moved to California and
found a new team.
- Sarah Breevoort was selected to move up to
the United Quest White '85 Athena team.
- Nisha Desai moved back to her true age group
(U-13) and plays for the United Quest Blue '86 Athena team.
- Shelby Downs retired from soccer.
- Margaret Shirley retired from soccer to
devote more time to her golf career.
- Katie White retired from soccer to go into
cheerleading.
Meghan, Sarah, Nisha, Shelby, Margaret and Katie all
contributed great things to last year's team. We thank them for their efforts and wish
them well in the future!
