There were about 10 Lanier residences on the U.S. census records as of 1790. This had increased to around 18 households by 1800. This number doubled by 1810. This number almost doubled again by 1830. By 1860 there were over 360 Lanier households on the U.S. census.

Today there are over 10,000 residences in the U.S. and only around 500 households in France which was the orginal home of the Laniers. The number of Laniers in Great Britain has dwindled to less than 10.

Only one Lanier lives in South Africa.
