DIRECTOR'S OFFICE at Tuskegee Housing Authority
The main office of the housing authority was renovated along with the
renovation of 170 dwelling units a few years back. Additional, private
office space was needed to replace the open office layout. As such
the existing director's office was needed for other offices and a small
addition was added to fill and square the building. This office greatly
increased the usefulness and productivity of this space.
We used very pretty bead board paneling as a
wainscot with textured vinyl above that. The cabinets are custom but not
expensive. Glass in some of the doors adds a lot without much cost. The
multicolored carpet has a solid border to accent the central area of the
room and keep the feeling small. We made a coffer for fluorescent
lights and put "egg crate" in LAC grid to give an open bright ceiling to
the center area. A small conference work table with chairs at one end of
the room allows work to be done while the Director is nearby. A switch-operated,
rollup screen for slides or video is hidden in the soffit just over the
center window . The director has an open low counter behind his desk
for a computer terminal and writing. All in all it's a very sophisticated
space on a small budget. The same wainscot and vinyl are also used
in the halls and a few other office spaces. The open break area placed
in a turn of the corridor is especially nice, also.
