Other reference: The Langendoerfer name took on different spelling durning the 18th an early 19th centuries. The 'doer' existed in Saarland records of the 18th and 19th centuries. The Saar is, perhaps, unique amoung the German States because of its geographical position. The Saarland, along with Alsace Lorraine, teetered between two masters- France and Germany and belonged to France durning the days of the French Revolution. The Saar, unlike other parts of Germany remains heavily Catholic. The Catholic Church records were ofter kept by priests who substituted the dipthong, "oe" for the ö (with the umlaut). Often these priests were not Germans. When Germany began to keep civil records in the 19th century, the "Langendoerfer" individuals of the church records became "Langendorfers" or Langendorffers" in the civil records. Catholic records in Baden, etc. are often written in German or a mix of German and Latin. Note name change Langendörfer to Langendorfer the umlaut  " ö was dropped for o.
