Net Search
How would you like to have a staff of employees who are always on time and available 24 hrs. a day, seven days a week.
Well you do! You just might not be aware of it.
The Internet is so vast and changes so rapidly that bot technology has been implemented to provide a helping hand.
Whether you call them an agent, spider or bot you need to utilize their skills if you hope to get the most out of what the net has to offer.
I have employed a few of these programs and I will share with you my experiences with these interesting on-line assistants.
Agents
NetAttachePro 2.5 is a great full site retrieval agent. I would recommend you check out this title for grabbing your favorite web sites that you browse on a daily basis.
You can schedule it to download the info while you are away from your computer, say overnight.
Point this agent toward your bookmarks and it will retrieve the info from those sites. This feature is outstanding
This is a great way to enjoy the Internet without having to sit and wait and wait.....

Spiders
Teleport Pro 1.29 The teleport spider really excels at logging on to the site(s) you want and retrieving the files you specify.
I see people often asking how to download multiple files from a web site, with Teleport Pro you can make this a snap.
It does not have the capability of gathering files from FTP sites, but this is promised in the future.

Snakes
WebSnake 1.23 This internet utility is very similar to the Teleport Pro except that it has the ability to search and retrieve data from FTP sites.
The WebSnake can also locate and retrieve the e-mail addresses posted on a web site. Unless you use your site to attract customers, you might want to consider not posting your email address on it. Utilities like the WebSnake make it simple for spammers to add you to their marketing lists.

Ferrets
NetFerret This suite of three internet utilities is another great time saver.
WebFerret uses most of the search utilities such as Lycos, Excite and AltaVista to hunt down the info you request. This saves you the time of having to travel to each site and perform a separate search. It is also very fast and it will have you thinking that it could return 500 matches to just about anything you request.
NewsFerret searches the Usenet newsgroup for you.
FileFerret is similar to performing an Archie search, except that it also searches places like Filez and Snoopie.

Compass
WebCompass 2.0 Searches for "topics" you request using every search engine imaginable.
What's great about this is how WC2 then prepares a database of the relevant links complete with a full paragraph description of the sites.
WC proceeds to recreate this database in a "bookmark style" report you can then peruse on-line with your browser.
Here is a bookmark listing of sites on Web Agents that I made using WC2.

Archie
fpArchie 0.9 is a windows archie search engine that is a tremendous time saver when you know the name of the file(s) you are looking for.
Just key in the file name and a search will be performed of all the archies in the world or just the ones you specify. You can then download a file match. This app is similar to the FileFerret, except this one is free.
I have found that the archies in the United States are almost totally useless and a waste of time. Hell and I even live in the U.S.
The best I have found isn't even technically a archie site. Ftp Search in Norway is outstanding at finding whatever you may desire.
This new version of fpArchie is even linked with CuteFTP or a couple of other FTP client apps.
