
Suggestion is a powerful part of Hypnosis.
We might also call these self suggestions, affirmations or positive self talk. Many of us have utilized this approach in our efforts to change our lives in a positive way. But what makes these self suggestions work, if they really do at all? Sometimes we find we can say these things to ourselves but it doesn’t necessarily change our lives - why is this?
The well known universal self suggestion ‘Every day in every way I am getting better and better,’ said often enough with conviction, emotion and deep belief, can assist us to ‘reprogram’ our subconscious. When we use such suggestions in a hypnotic trance or relaxed state they will have more chance of ‘sticking’ than if we do not use the hypnotic trance state.

Many people ask. ‘So if I just say this over and over how can it come true or really work for me?’ That depends upon if you truly believe the self suggestion you have chosen to work with. The affirmation should push you to your leading edge. Not too incredible and not too easy. You may also have an equally or stronger opposing thought that cancels out the positive suggestion. You may say to yourself over and over ‘I am a powerful money magnet,’ but perhaps there is also a belief inside of you that says ‘but I don’t really deserve to have more than I have.’
It is therapies such as Hypnotherapy that can help you to uncover the negative thought processes that are holding you back in such a way. We discover that we are the only ones that hold ourselves back from the things that we truly want! The very fact that you are beginning to work with a positive suggestion will automatically bring up to your conscious mind the opposing blocking beliefs for you to review! But don’t let that discourage you!
"I am loved and I am lovable."
Grafting in this new positive thought we must also let go of the old negative thought in order to create the life that we are aiming for. Do you feel any blocking or opposing thoughts come up with the above self-suggestion?
Welcome them. As you impress the positive suggestion upon your inner mind it will try to make them a reality and will throw up any garbage that does not comply with it.
So yes positive suggestions can work to change your life. But be aware of the negative self suggestions you have created too! Be patient - you are beginning to create your own reality.
